A second arrest has been made in connection with the robbery of a 73-year-old man who thought he was meeting a 20-year-old woman for sex.

As reported last week, the incident occurred Sept. 10  at the “broken bridge” behind the Quality Inn hotel on Church Street.

Police have now arrested Brandon Oneal Coakley, 24, of Georgetown for his alleged involvement with the robbery.

The victim reportedly told police he was supposed to meet 20-year-old Raquel Lashawn Lee of Emanuel Street near the bridge. He thought he was going to pay her $20 for sex.

The two were in his vehicle talking when both doors of the truck opened up and there were two men, one of them was holding a gun.

One of the suspects punched the man in the face and dragged him out of the vehicle.

Once the victim was on the ground, the suspects demanded money and threatened to shoot him if he did not comply.

The man only had $20 in cash which was apparently not enough because the suspects then told him to write them a check which he did but they tore it up and demanded a  new one.

Police have now arrested Brandon Oneal Coakley, 24, of Georgetown for his alleged involvement with the robbery.

They then took the man’s wallet and keys and tossed them out before driving off in Lee’s vehicle.

Because it was dark he could not find his keys so he walked to the nearby Kangaroo convenience store to call for help.

Lee was arrested the next day at her residence. Police are still looking for the third suspect. 

Both Lee and Coakley are charged with Armed Robbery, Forgery and Criminal Conspiracy.

Coakley is also charged with Attempted Escape.

That’s because, according to Police Capt. Nelson Brown, Coakley managed to get out of his handcuffs while at the police department then tried to run from the interview room. He was quickly detained by officers.
