A day of accidents in Georgetown
It has been a busy day for the Georgetown City Fire Department, Georgetown police, EMS and county firefighters because of accidents.
At about 9 p.m., there was a three vehicle accident in front of Dollar General at the Georgetown city limits on Highmarket Street.
Fire Chief Joey Tanner said one car overturned several times and the Jaws of Life had to be used to free a woman from that vehicle.
He said four people were taken to the hospital from that scene. The extent of the injuries is unknown.
Some firefighters had to leave that accident at about 9:40 p.m. because of a reported car fire in front of Walmart.
Just after 1 p.m. Friday, a truck hit a gas pump at the Sunoco station at the corner of Highmarket Street and Merriman Road. The impact toppled the pump and witnesses reported seeing smoke and flames, according to scanner reports. When the first responders arrived there were no flames.
The cause of that accident is still being investigated. It's believed one person was taken to the hospital.
While emergency workers were on that call, another accident took place. This one was at the Kangaroo convenience store at the corner of Church and St. James Streets.
The driver of a car lost control on Church Street and her car overturned on the store property. She escaped serious injury.
