Wedgefield controversy

We built our house in Wedgefield in 1983.  It was a beautiful area, and above all, it was a nice neighborhood — in short, a nice place to retire.

We had issues during our growing process — street lights, marina, drainage, etc., but we, as a group, always put Wedgefield first without confrontation.

Our newly elected board has been harassed and demeaned for their stand on canal dredging by a small group of residents who fit the mold of those who did not want street lights, marina, etc.

The current board went to bat to protect our community from the proposed golf course changes that would have changed the course to no more than an executive golf course.

Even though most of the current elected board members are not golfers and had no personal interest in the golf course, they knew these changes were wrong for Wedgefield and property values, just as canal system maintenance is good for all of Wedgefield, not just for the property owners on the canal.

It is time for the few people attacking our elected board members for doing their job, for our community to please stop before you completely ruin our pleasant neighborhood.

Resident of 23 years.

Water/sewer bill

Director, Georgetown Water and Sewer District:

Dear Sir: I write today as a customer and environmentalist to protest your recent enactment of a minimum water/sewer bill.

As a conscientious user of our precious natural resources, I always thought I was doing my part by judiciously using treated water and discharging as little as possible into the sewer system.

Instead of being rewarded for my conservation, I have been instead hit with the disincentive of larger monthly bill that charges me for volumns of water I have purposefully not used and a corresponding decrease in sewer volumn.

I question this new practice of Georgetown Water and Sewer and urge you to revisit the decision making involved in this negative impact on water and sewer conservation behavior.

I am forwarding a copy of this letter to local media and environmental groups in hopes of generating sufficient outrage to effect a reversal of the new practice.
