‘Stuck’ in the Christmas Spirit

This past Saturday our Christmas spirit was alive and well as our family headed out for the annual Georgetown Christmas parade.

The spirit quickly died as I got the family SUV stuck in the mud at East Bay Park.

I will say my husband told me it would happen, and I didn't listen.  Chances of getting our car out looked slim, but with the help of many of Georgetown's finest we were able to avoid the cost of a tow and at least salvage a small part of our Saturday together.

We would like to thank some folks in particular who went above and beyond in helping us.

Dormaine and Rhonda Nixon were the first on the scene and the first brave ones who offered to give us a tow (also getting stuck in the process)!

The confederate soldiers who then got the Nixon car out, but got stuck getting our car out.

Mandy Glover from the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office who called in the troops!

She also saved our 10-year old daughter the embarrassment of being seen with the "stuck" car.

The Georgetown City police department who offered to send a tow.

Last, but not least, Scott Marlowe, who got all of us out!

He brought his heavy duty truck and trailer and didn't hesitate to get dirty.

Without all of these fine people we might still be sitting there and my husband may or may not be speaking to me.

You all are heroes in our book because it seemed like a small thing, but it meant a great deal to us.

In  this season of giving, we should all lend a hand and if you see any of these folks let them know you appreciate what they did.

Georgetown

City Christmas lights

I would like to thank the staff of the City Electric Department who work so hard during the year to take care of all of the beautiful Christmas lights that are placed around the city.

They especially deserve credit for installing them, sometimes during less than optimal weather.

I think every citizen of Georgetown should make a special effort to cross the Sampit River Bridge and see the beautiful arrangement of the lights there.

It welcomes all who enter our great little city from the south with true Christmas Spirit and as they leave have a wonderful feeling to carry them on their journey.

Thank you!!

Drink responsibly

The Christmas season is upon us and that means special occasions with friends and family to celebrate with holiday parties and New Year celebrations.

During these events, please remember to drink responsibly and choose a designated driver.

By doing so, we can all make a difference in our community and we can ensure that our time spent with friends and loved ones will be safe and more enjoyable.

Better Brands and Anheuser-Busch thank all adults who choose to be or use a designated driver this holiday season.

From our Better Brands family to you, we wish you a blessed Christmas and a happy holiday and remember, Responsibility Matters!
