Police blotter: Too many cats

Police met with a Highmarket Street man July 8 because of the number of cats he has been keeping on his property. The man has been placing food behind his business.

He said he has been trying to lure the wild cats to his property so he can have them spayed or neutered in order to help reduce the increasing population.

He said he has 20-25 domesticated cats and about 30 that are feral.

The man said he will not work with the Humane Society because they euthanize cats with certain diseases which he does not feel should happen.

Because the man had been warned previously, he was charged with maintaining a public nuisance.

Gun drawn

Two North Carolina men who were in Georgetown on business said a 22 year old Andrews man pointed a gun at them outside a Front Street bar late July 7.

The men said they were inside the bar and one of them started talking to a woman. When she asked him to buy her a drink, the suspect walked up and stared  arguing with the man.

Later, when the NC men were leaving, they were confronted by the Andrews man in the parking area. He pointed a gun at the men as they were getting into their vehicle.  The suspect then followed the men until they drove to where they saw a police officer.

Police found the Andrews man and the woman on Front Street. The man was arrested.

Graffiti found

The director of the Georgetown Housing Authority said graffiti was found painted on the side of a building on Avant Court.  A maintenance crew had covered the graffiti before police arrived.

The complainant said the graffiti consisted of a six-sided star, a pitchfork and what appears to be a crown above the star.  The case was turned over to the police departments street crimes division.

Flying orange juice

A 48 year old man called police to a Highmarket Street home after a 38 year old woman threw a carton of orange juice at him July 7.

The man said the woman was yelling profanity before and after throwing the beverage.

The officer noted the kitchen “was a disaster” after what the woman did to other items in the refrigerator.  She was issued a citation for disorderly conduct.

The report does not state the relationship between the man and woman.

Aluminum theft

Someone cut a hole in a fence at the Georgetown County School bus maintenance shop on Washington Street and stole about 40 aluminum framed windows.

Five 12 volt bus batteries and four radiators were also taken.

Church burglary

A burglary was reported at First Baptist Church in Georgetown July 11. A window was broken on the Cleland Road side of the building.  The only thing reported stolen was a small refrigerator that had been in a hallway.

The preceding reports, compiled by Scott Harper, were collected  from local law enforcement offices.
