Police blotter: Racial slurs lead to bloody fight

Deputies were sent to the Brookwood Motel in Murrells Inlet June 11 and saw blood all over a car in the parking lot.

They were trying to find the victim and then saw blood on the doorknob of room 32.

The 29 year old North Carolina man who opened the door said he had been in an altercation with one of his co-workers — a 34 year old man.

The younger man — an African-American — said he and the older man — a Caucasian — had been at a bar when the older man used numerous racial slurs.

When back in their car, the older man continued the racial remarks and pulled out a knife and was bouncing it on his leg.

They stopped at a store for the older, intoxicated man to buy cigarettes and he started giving the clerk a hard time.

He took his co-worker out of the store and as they were driving back to the hotel, he continued his racial slurs.

Once at the hotel, the older man started blowing the horn on the vehicle while calling the man racial names, so the younger man hit him three or four times.

He said he did not think the man was hurt bad.

The older man walked away from the motel but later returned and was treated by EMS.

No arrests were made.

Hoping for jail

In many cases, when a man assaults his girlfriend he denies it when questioned by officers.

But on June 15, Central Dispatch received a call from a 22 year old man who said he just punched his girlfriend and wanted to turn himself in.

When deputies met with the man’s girlfriend at her home near Georgetown, she said everything was OK.

She then showed deputies a text she had received from her boyfriend which stated “Hey, I called the cops and told them I hit you.

Play along so I will have a place to stay tonight.”

The woman said she and her boyfriend did argue but he never hit her. She said she made him leave her home.

Violent family game night

A 40-year-old McDonald Road area man said he and his family were playing cards June 21 when they accused him of cheating.

He said his 12-year-old nephew then grabbed a knife and tried to stab him but was stopped before he could succeed.

This resulted into a heated argument between the man and the child’s father.

Those two began to fight causing the man to injure his hand.

The man who was nearly stabbed allegedly stabbed his 14 year old nephew in the face when the teen attempted to break up the two fighting men.

He was arrested for assault and battery. The 12 year old was charged with the same offense and was released to his mother.

Child left in vehicle

Responding to a tip, deputies discovered a 4  year old girl had been left alone in a vehicle parked in front of the Endo Restaurant in Pawleys Island June 20.

The complainant said she heard the child crying in the car and then waited for someone to return to the vehicle which was not running and had two windows partially rolled down.

She said about 30 minutes passed before a woman came out and took the girl in the restaurant.

Deputies found the woman inside. She said she placed her daughter in the car so the child could take a nap while she worked.

When asked if there was anywhere in the restaurant the girl could have slept, the woman said “yes.”

When she was told she was being arrested, the woman reportedly asked “I’m being arrested for a little mistake like this?”

Straw theft

Georgetown police were called to the city’s Public Works office June 19 where a worker said 10-15 bails of pine straw had been stolen from inside a locked fence on city property.

The straw was worth about $4.50 per bail.

The preceding reports, compiled by Scott Harper, were collected  from local law enforcement offices.
