A man from Oak Street in Maryville said he was sleeping on the couch at about 2:45 a.m. Saturday when his wife walked in an hit him on the head with a candle and then threw a cat on him.
The man said he was in fear for his life but did not want to leave the house and did not want his wife arrested.
The woman said the two had been arguing about a missing dog. She also denied hitting her husband.
The case was closed since the man chose not to press charges.
Not a crack user
Police arrested a 35 year old North Merriman Road woman who was yelling and screaming as she was walking on Front Street at about 10:15 p.m. Friday.
The woman appeared to be intoxicated and reportedly failed some sobriety tests administered by an officer.
While the officer was talking to the woman, she said “I might drink a lot but I don’t smoke crack.”
She was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Ring theft
Police looked for a man who reportedly stole two rings from Wal Mart Sunday evening.
An employee said the man asked to see two rings from the display case. The man grabbed the two rings — valued at $850 — and ran out the store.
The man reportedly lost one of the sandals he was wearing inside the store as he was making his getaway.
Police were expected to retrieve security camera video to help with the investigation.
Senior packing heat
While on patrol Saturday morning, an officer saw the 80 year old driver of a vehicle back into the car of a 69 year old man in the Hardee’s parking lot.
The officer got out to check on the driver who then “put the vehicle in gear and sped away,” the report states.
Another officer pulled the elderly man over on North Fraser Street and during a pat down a pistol was found in his pants pocket.
Another pistol was found in the vehicle.
When asked why he fled the scene, the man said he just got out the hospital and was not feeling well.
Because of his age and medical condition, the man was not taken to jail but was ticketed for hit and run and carrying a concealed weapon. He must appear in court in August.
Theft from Salvation Army
A worker at the Pawleys Island Salvation Army saw two women loading their trucks with bags of donations Sunday afternoon.
When the worker quizzed the women — ages 39 and 40, both from Georgetown — they said they were told by a Salvation Army sergeant they could have the bags of goods.
The worker was informed by her boss the local Salvation Army chapter does not have anyone with the ranking of sergeant and if they did the person would not have given the women permission to take the items.
Both women were arrested for petit larceny.
Concerned about scam
An Andrews woman said she received a call Saturday from someone claiming she had won $2.5 million. Knowing it was a hoax, the woman decided to play along to see what the caller would say.
The caller told the woman to send $125 to an address in New Jersey to claim her prize.
The woman said she got concerned when the caller said he would deliver the check to her personally and called her back 12 times on Saturday.
Tacos and eggs
When an employee of Taco Bell on Church Street arrived at work Saturday, she saw someone had egged the building.
She said the eggs were thrown at the front door and drive through.
The preceding reports, compiled by Scott Harper, were collected from local law enforcement offices.
