Extra help was needed at a cell inside the Georgetown County Detention Center Jan. 25 because the inmate — a 42-year-old Garden City man — was holding a toothbrush he had made into a weapon.

“All attempts by jail staff to talk to the inmate was met with negative results,” the report states.

When a deputy arrived, the inmate was holding a blanket and a glass of water which he splashed on the officer through the cell door.

The officer and other deputies then entered the cell behind a riot control shield.

While attempting to take the inmate to the ground, the deputy was hit in the mouth by the shield causing a minor split on his lower lip.

A Taser had to be used to bring the inmate under control.

He was then walked to another cell.

Neighbor kicks neighbor

A 63-year-old man from Boone Loop in Murrells Inlet said while he was at the hospital for a medical procedure Jan. 24, his dog broke free from where he was chained and went into a neighbor’s yard.

The man said when he returned home, his neighbor was  not happy about it because the dog had “relieved itself” in his yard.

The upset man told the victim he was going to kill the dog and kick the victim in the privates.

He then proceeded to kick the victim, but not as high as he threatened. He kicked the man just above his ankle.

He was advised to see a magistrate if he wanted to sign a warrant.

Boyfriend attack

A 24-year-old Murrells Inlet man is accused of attacking his girlfriend during an argument at their home on Macklen Ave. Jan. 22.

The woman met deputies at a nearby gas station and said her boyfriend threw her on the floor and “choked her until she could not breath and almost passed out,” the report states.

He then busted her lip by striking her in the mouth.

The man allegedly took the woman’s keys so she could nit leave so she ran out the house and then through the woods until she reached the gas station.

Deputies went to the home to find the suspect but he did not answer the door.

A warrant for his arrest was expected to be signed by a magistrate.

Beginner’s permit violation

Normally, if someone is ticketed for having only a beginner’s permit while they are driving, they are a teenager.

A deputy issued one of the citations Jan. 26 but, in this case, the driver was a 37-year-old woman.

The officer made the traffic stop after seeing the vehicle being driven on Red’s Landing Road in Andrews with no headlights even though it was 2:45 a.m.

She received the ticket because she was alone in the car despite the fact a beginner’s permit requires a licensed adult to be in the vehicle with the driver.

Stolen motorcycle recovered

After making a traffic stop on a speeding truck on Brick Chimney Road Jan. 26, a deputy saw a motorcycle on its side in the back of the vehicle.

The driver said he picked the bike up from his cousin on Oatland Road to do some work on it.

Through a records check, it was learned the motorcycle had been reported stolen from Richland County.

The driver was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.

The girls were rolling on the floor fighting when they were separated by staff members.

There were as many as 200 students in the lunchroom when the incident occurred.

One girl’s blouse was ripped and the other suffered a busted lip.
