A deputy responded to an abandoned building on Hammock Ave. in Murrells Inlet June 29 after receiving reports of homeless people staying at that location.
He found six people inside the building but could not verify who owned the property.
As a result, he was unable to determine if the six had permission to be at that location.
Each of the people was checked for warrants and all were clear except a 18 year old female who was a runaway from Horry County.
Since it was unclear if the group was trespassing, no charges were filed but they were ordered to leave the property.
Truck vandalized
A woman from Squirrel Run Road said her truck was vandalized June 28.
She said she noticed a window was busted out after she let her nephew use the vehicle.
She also said some wires under the hood appeared to have been cut.
Stolen dog
A black and white Shih Tzu was taken from its home on Folly Grove Road June 29.
The owner said she saw the dog in the yard before a storm hit but after the weather cleared the pet was gone.
The woman said her children told her they saw a man they know take the dog.
When the woman confronted the man, he said he took it and gave it to another man.
That man denied getting a dog from anyone.
Crack possession
While conducting a traffic checkpoint on Petigru Drive in Pawleys Island June 29, deputies saw a man on a bike with no light on.
He turned it on when he saw the officers.
The deputies talked to the man and asked if he had anything in his possession they should know about and he said “no.”
He was asked if he could be patted down and he gave permission.
Inside his wallet was a small bag containing crack cocaine.
The man said he found the bag on the ground and was taking it home “to see what it was,” the report states.
After informing him what it was, the deputies arrested him.
No charges filed
While on patrol on Windover Drive in Pawleys Island at about 2:20 a.m. June 30, a deputy saw three men who started running when they spotted him.
Two men ran in the woods while the third tried to hide in a ditch.
The officer detained that man who was holding a flashlight.
The 17 year old from Georgia first said he and his pals were ringing doorbells and running but the officer was informed by Central Dispatch there had been no calls about any such activity.
The deputy asked the suspect if they were looking for things to steal and he reportedly said “we haven’t stolen anything yet.”
The teen was taken back to the house where he was staying. One of the other teens who ran was there but it was determined no crime had actually been committed.
The preceding reports, compiled by Scott Harper, were collected from local law enforcement offices.
