Police blotter: Dead cat found in mailbox
Published Tuesday, January 05, 2010 10:52 PM

The following reports were collected  from local law enforcement offices:

A woman from David Ray Road said when she went to check her mail recently, there was a dead cat inside the box.

There was also a note from the mail carrier stating her mail could not be delivered because of the dead animal.

The woman said there have been several incidents involving her mailbox she has not reported.

Kaminski House vandalism

Sometime last week someone knocked down a light pole at the Kaminski House on Front Street. The pole was in a flower bed when an officer arrived and the light was broken.

The officer said it’s unknown if the pole was knocked down or pulled down. He also noted strong winds could have caused it to topple.

Damage is estimated at $1,000.

Violent roommate

A Duke Street woman called police New Year’s morning because her roommate – a 35-year-old man — was trashing the house.

The woman said the man had been drinking and got mad when his wife left with a friends.

He started picking up things and breaking them.

Officers reported hearing the man in an upstairs bedroom throwing things.

The man obeyed the order of the officer to exit the room. When asked what he was doing, the man said “nothing” and that everything was OK.

The officer saw blood on the man’s hands and a bruise in his head.

The man said he did that by banging his head on a wall.

He was arrested for disorderly conduct.

When you gotta go...

A police officer was parked on Front Street monitoring the bars in the area at about 12:15 a.m. New Year’s morning when he saw a 34-year-old man from Nesmith on the sidewalk talking on a cell phone.

A few minutes later, the officer saw the man urinating on the side of a building.

The officer approached the man who denied using the building for a toilet.

He also refused to tell the officer his name.

The man was highly intoxicated, so he was charged with disorderly conduct rather than the more severe charge of indecent exposure.

While en route to jail, the man told the officer he only had five beers so there was  no way he could be intoxicated.

Father/son altercation

A 50-year-old Georgetown man and his son were in a heated shouting match in the parking lot of Advance Auto Parts Dec. 31.

The older man appeared to be intoxicated and said he and his son were arguing about a car.

They were getting louder and started using profanity in front of customers.

They were arrested for disorderly conduct and continued to yell at and threaten each other while in the back of the patrol car as they were being driven to jail.

Illegal dumping

An employee of Francis Marion General Store on Highway 701 said they are tired of a 43-year-old woman dumping her trash in their garbage cans.

The complainant said the woman has been warned to stop but on Dec. 23 they found three garbage bags with the woman’s bank statements inside.

The employee said they did want to prosecute.

Chevy, dog stolen

A Pawleys Island man said he was assaulted and his 2000 Chevrolet and dog were stolen.

The man said he was at the Islander Bar Dec. 22. He said when he walked outside he noticed his vehicle was gone. His black lab was inside the car.

The man said he probably left the door unlocked and there was a spare key inside.

He said a man gave him a ride home but during the drive they got into an argument and the man punched him on the face.

Child threatened

An 11-year-old Pleasant Hill area girl said she was at her grandfather’s house Dec. 23 when the telephone rang.

She answered it and a male voice said “I’m going to cut your throat and kill your entire family.”

The girl’s grandfather picked up and extension but was unable to identify the voice.
