A 51-year-old Georgetown man used a counterfeit $10 to pay for a meal at McDonald’s restaurant New Year’s Eve but police believe it was unintentional.
The man was still at the restaurant when police arrived.
The man said he is legally blind and his family places his money in order of denomination so he will know how much he is handing someone.
He said he is unsure where he got the fake cash because he had made other transactions that day.
The officers determined — based on the man’s medical condition and the fact he waited for them to arrive — there was no probable cause to file charges against him.
Bleach attack
A 38-year-old Pawleys Island man met police in the 700 block of Front Street Dec. 29 after his ex-wife — also 38 and from Georgetown — allegedly walked up to him and poured bleach over his head.
When police arrived, they saw the man’s eyes were very red and he had bleach marks on his shirt.
The man said he was inside a business at about 3:15 p.m. when his ex walked in and poured the liquid over his head. He said his eyes immediately began to burn.
The man’s current wife was standing next to him and the bleach got on her black pants.
Some of the bleach also got on the bartender.
The woman then walked out of the building and picked up a brick and threw it at her ex-husband’s vehicle but missed.
Thieves take medicine
A man from Kensington Boulevard said he and his wife left home at about 5 p.m. Jan. 3 and when they returned about an hour later they saw the garage door was open.
They then discovered three doors to their house were also open.
They checked the house and the only thing they noticed missing was prescription medicine.
There are no suspects.
In a separate incident, also with no suspects, a woman from Fringetree Drive in Murrells Inlet reported prescription pills were stolen from her house sometime between late November and the end of December.
She reported the theft after it was discovered Jan. 3.
She said the bottle of Oxycodone was still on the kitchen counter where she had placed it but the bottle was empty.
The woman said she believes her niece may be responsible.
Theft from mailbox
A woman from the 200 block of Prince Street said she placed $120 in an envelope inside her mailbox Jan. 2 which was supposed to be picked up by a friend.
When her friend stopped by to retrieve the envelope from the mailbox located on the woman’s porch, it was gone.
The woman said her children and roommate were home when the theft took place but no one saw anything.
Information is subject to change as the investigation proceeds.
Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
