A Haven Drive woman called 911 after 5 p.m. Dec. 26 to report more than $300 worth of Christmas presents had been stolen from her home.

The woman said she went to Columbia Christmas Eve while others from the home went elsewhere.

She discovered her daughter’s gifts that were under the tree had been taken when she returned Christmas night.

When asked why she waited a day to report the thefts, the woman said she thought someone may have been playing a joke on her.

She also said she had to take her son to the doctor.

The deputy noted he saw no signs of forced entry.

The investigation continues.

Nothing else appeared to have been touched.

Theft from mailbox

The owner of Promech Inc. located on Nicholas Street in Murrells Inlet said someone stole a $2,380 check he had placed inside the company mailbox.

The theft was discovered when someone attempted to use the check in Fayettville, N.C.

The owner said when he was advised of the attempted cashing by the North Carolina business, he asked them not to cash it because it had been stolen.

A worker at that business said they had the identity of the attempted casher but could not release that information.

Fayettville police were notified and are helping with the investigation.

Intoxicated man

Deputies were sent to Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet Dec. 27 because of an intoxicated man laying in the parking lot.

When the officers arrived, the 47-year-old North Charleston man was no longer on the ground.

He was arrested for public intoxication but before he was taken to jail he started saying he was having chest pains.

EMS transported the man to Waccamaw Community Hospital where it was determined the pain was caused by cocaine consumption.
