A 79-year-old Pawleys Island man said he received a call Nov. 28 from someone claiming he had won $2.9 million from the Publishers Clearing House Sweepstakes.

He received another call Dec. 1 from someone claiming to be from the same organization who said he was en route to the man’s home with the prize in an armored vehicle.

The caller said the man needed to pay a $1,500 fee in order to receive the prize. He was told to go to Walgreens and purchase three $500 reloadable cards and not to tell anyone about the call.

The man did not fall for the scam and said he did not wish to prosecute since he lost no money.

Clemson-Carolina fight

A 29-year-old man was watching the Clemson-Carolina game at his 26-year-old brother’s Kent Road home when a fight between the two erupted.

The younger brother grabbed some food out of the refrigerator which made his older brother mad, the report explains.

The victim said his older brother pushed him down and punched and choked him.

He was advised to see a magistrate about the incident.

Noticeable shoplifter

A woman accused of shoplifting from the Piggly Wiggly on Willbrook Blvd. Dec. 1 did very little to hide the crime.

A manager said he saw the woman load her shopping cart with about $80 worth of items and then she pushed the buggy out the door.

What made it obvious is the fact none of the groceries were in shopping bags.

A man was seen helping her load the groceries in a vehicle.

The suspects have not been found.

Burglar steals laptop

A man from the 100 block of River Birch Lane in Pawleys Island reported someone used a cement block to break a window and enter his home sometime between Nov. 23 and 27.

A laptop computer, a 32-inch TV and a 42-inch TV were taken.

On Nov. 25, a woman reported finding a TV in the roadway on River Birch Lane.

Because that was reported two days before the burglary was discovered it was unknown if the TV belonged to the burglary victim.

Stolen lottery tickets

A worker at the Maryville Kangaroo convenience store was reviewing security camera footage Dec. 5 and saw the theft of lottery tickets take place.

On the video three men walked around the store and waited for the clerk on duty to be away from the counter.

Then one of the men walked over and reached over the counter and grabbed several lottery tickets and placed them in his pocket.

Information  is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
