A 49-year-old Andrews woman is facing charges after allegedly pawning a laptop that was being rented from a Kingstree business.

An employee of Aaron’s Rental in Kingstree met with a deputy Aug. 9 and reported the store’s laptop had been pawned at the Money Saver in Georgetown.

The pawn shop returned the laptop to the rental store and a warrant was expected to be signed against the woman for obtaining goods under false pretenses.

Blockbuster employee theft

A manager of Blockbuster Video in Pawleys Island said she went to the store Aug. 11 to terminate a male worker. She said she was waiting for another manager to arrive to help with the termination.

As she was waiting in the parking lot, she reportedly saw the worker removing items from the store and placing them in his car.

The items taken included printer paper and other things that were in two brown boxes.

When the manager confronted the man about the theft, he reportedly jumped in his car and sped away.

One thing the man did leave behind was his cell phone. In his hurry to leave the store, he forgot it inside the business.

A deputy used the phone to call the man’s girlfriend. She was asked to tell him if he did not return the items, he would be prosecuted.

Fake Rolex

A man from Jordan Landing Road in Murrells Inlet contacted authorities Aug. 13 to report a Rolex watch he purchased was a counterfeit.

The man said he paid $1,500 for the watch when he bought it from a 44-year-old Murrells Inlet man earlier this month. He said when he took the Rolex to a watch maker, he was told it was a fake.

The man told a deputy he purchased the watch after being promised it was real.

The victim said the seller told him he had the paperwork to prove it was real but when it was time to make the transaction, the suspect told him he lost the documents. He said the only reason he was selling the watch was because he needed the money to pay rent and child support.

The victim said he did want to prosecute.

Campers burglarized

Five campers at Lilly Gun Club on Walker Road were reportedly burglarized last weekend.

Deputies met with a man who said he stopped by the campsites to check on things and saw all of the camping trailers had been broken into.

In total, nearly $3,000 worth of items was taken including grills, propane tanks, tree stands, a television, a rifle and clothing.

The complainant said two men were caught trespassing on the property the day before the breakins were discovered. The deputy was also told one of the gates was broken in order for the person to gain entry to the property.

Dune tampering

A vacationer who was staying on South Dunes Drive in Litchfield called deputies Aug. 11 to report people had been pulling up the sea oats plants from the dunes in that area.

She said a few days prior to her calling, she saw a man with some of the sea oats near his beach chair. When she confronted the man, he said he got them out of the ocean.

The woman told deputies the sea oats theft “is a new trend” that has been happening recently and she feels tourists are to blame.

Stolen dog

A man from the 4600 block of Highmarket Street reported his brown and white pit bull was taken from his home Aug. 13.

The dog was taken from a pen in the back yard.

He said the only person he can think of who may have possibly taken the dog is a man who has asked him several times to sell him the dog so he can use it for fighting.

The complainant does not know that man’s name or where he lives.

Information is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
