Deputies were sent to the Pawleys Island home of a  77 year-old woman who may have been suffering some sort of psychotic episode Jan. 11.

The woman alerted her medical alarm company and told them “multiple” people entered her home. She said the invaders shot her and threw her grandchildren in a trash container.

When deputies arrived, the woman pointed to the front yard and said “there they are” but there was no one to be seen.

The woman also started talking to her daughter although no one else was in the room with her at the time.

She was detained and was transported to the hospital to be evaluated. While en route, she told the deputy there was a man beside her in the back seat of the patrol car with a gun but there was no one beside her.

Man charged with hitting

wife and more

A 46-year-old Murrells Inlet woman called deputies to her home Jan. 9 after her husband  — a 51-year-old man — reportedly hit her on the face with a closed fist.

She said they were arguing about money matters when the assault took place.

The man then fled the scene in a Jeep but was spotted driving by the house as an officer was speaking with his wife.

A deputy followed the Jeep to the end of a road where the man stopped.

There were open containers of beer in the vehicle. The man was taken into custody.

The deputy noted seeing red marks on the woman’s face but her husband denied hitting her.

He said she scratched him but the officer saw no marks on the man.

As he was being arrested, the man allegedly yelled “kill me.”

He was charged with domestic violence and having an open container.

Fire hydrant stolen

A county worker reported a fire hydrant was stolen from the intersection of Bellamy Ave. and Highway 17 Bypass in Murrells Inlet.

On Jan. 9, the hydrant was hit by a vehicle during a traffic accident. It had been left by the road.

When a worker went to fix the hydrant the next day he discovered it was gone.

The hydrant is worth about $2,800.

Illegal scavenging

A worker at a county recycling center on Grate Ave. in Pawleys Island reported a 51-year-old woman had been told several times she cannot take items from the facility.

The woman continued to take items after being warned.

A supervisor said no charges would be pressed at this time but if the problem continues, they will be forced to take action.

A deputy spoke with the alleged scavenger and told her she could no longer take things from the recycling center. She agreed to comply with the rule.

Storage units burglarized

A worker at Murrells Inlet Storage reported seven units had been burglarized Jan. 9.

A hole was cut in the surrounding fence for the person responsible to get inside.

Nothing appeared to be missing from some of the units. However, about $2,000 worth of tools was taken from one of the spaces.

“It appears that the locks of each unit were cut off with some type of bolt cutting device,” the report states.

That same night, three units at Recreational Storage — also in Murrells Inlet — were entered illegally.

A hole was cut in the fence in this instance as well. Because the renters were unable to be located by the time the report was written, it is unknown if anything was taken.

Information  is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
