An inmate at the Georgetown County Detention Center may have earned the name ‘hot pants’ after an incident Jan. 25.

The 38-year-old woman was being booked on disorderly conduct charges when she reportedly started causing problems.

Officers emptied her pockets and removed her shoes and placed her in a holding cell.

The woman continuously banged on the cell door and was ordered to calm down.

A little while later, officers saw flames coming from the cell. They ran over and saw the woman’s pants were on fire.

One officer tried to put out the flames with her hands while another grabbed a blanket which was used to stifle the fire.

Somehow the woman was uninjured.

The report does not indicate how the woman started the fire since her pockets were reportedly empty when she was placed in the cell.

Insurance man threatened

at gunpoint

An insurance inspector said he was met by a man with a shotgun while trying to conduct an inspection on a home on Labruce Lane in Murrells Inlet Jan. 21.

The 49-year-old victim said he rang a doorbell, knocked on the door and yelled into the garage announcing his presence but no one responded.

He said it is company policy to continue with an inspection, which he did. He said as he was doing the job a young man with a shotgun walked up to him in the driveway. The suspect asked what the man was doing and the victim tried to explain.

That is when the suspect reportedly loaded the gun and pointed it at the victim and ordered him to leave, which he did.

The victim decided he would not press charges.

Homeowner threatened

by new neighbor

A man who is building a new home on Heritage Loop said the woman who lives adjacent to his lot has an issue regarding the property.

On Jan. 28, the woman allegedly told the man she would shoot him or the workers if any of them stepped on her property.

The man said he does not want to press charges, he only wanted a report on file.

Stolen GPS

A 68-year-old man from the 4200 block of Murrells Inlet Road said he left his car door unlocked overnight Jan. 27.

When he went to his vehicle the following morning he discovered his GPS had been stolen.

The next day a man from the 4300 block of the same road said someone took a stereo from his car that was parked in his yard.

Information is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
