A rowdy crowd at the Pawleys Island Waffle House Christmas morning led to the arrest of a 24-year-old Georgetown man.
Deputies were sent to that location to help with crowd control at about 4:30 a.m. While there, the officers saw the “highly intoxicated” suspect trying to pick a fight with another man.
He ignored repeated orders to calm down, even when his friends tried to get him to sit in a car to cool off. Because he continued to yell profanities and engage the other man in a fight he was arrested for disorderly conduct.
Stolen signs
Three Andrews teenagers — all females — are accused of stealing street name signs from the intersection of Journey’s End Road and Talon Circle in Murrells Inlet.
A caller said the teens were in a station wagon and drove down Wachesaw Road after taking the signs.
A Highway Patrolman stopped the vehicle and when the deputy arrived the teens were out of the car with the signs. The parents of one the teens arrived. They said the other two girls were their nieces.
All three were charged with petit larceny. Because the driver is only 15, she was also charged with driving after dark and driving without a license.
Bad reaction to legal drug
A man from Olde Canal Loop in Pawleys Island walked out of his house Dec. 26 and found a male teenager on the ground in front of his car incoherent and throwing up so he called 911.
The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital which is where a deputy responded. It was determined the teen was having a reaction to a legal drug called “spice.”
The man who found the teen insisted charges be filed but was informed by the officer the drug is legal so no law was broken.
Daughter accused of silverware theft
A woman from Highway 17 Business in Murrells Inlet told a deputy her 40-year-old daughter from Garden City stole $8,000 worth of silverware.
She said she discovered the silverware was gone Dec. 22. The last time it was used was Thanksgiving.
The woman said her daughter admitted to her that she took the silverware but said she would deny it if she was asked again. The victim believes her daughter took the utensils to sell to support a drug habit.
Fake cash at the Y
A YMCA worker said someone used a counterfeit $5 bill when paying to use the facility Dec. 22 or 23.
There are no suspects.
Shrimp swindle
A 43-year-old Georgetown man says he was cheated out of 15 pounds of shrimp Dec. 21.
The man said he gave a 41-year-old Georgetown man $75 for the shrimp and the man he bought it from placed the cooler in the back of the buyer’s car.
The victim said because the cooler was also packed with ice, he did not open it because he did not want the ice to melt. He then drove to North Carolina where he had planned to cook the seafood.
Once in North Carolina he opened the cooler and saw it contained only ice.
A deputy went to the home of the seller and met with his wife who said the suspect was not there because he was working.
She was asked to have him call the Sheriff’s Office when he returned.
Information is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
