John Brock: The Duality of liberal thought defies conventional wisdom

Several years ago, I wrote about the schizophrenic thinking of the extreme liberal members of our society. Actually, my subject covered the ambivalent notions of the far-far-left components of our great nation.

Nothing has occurred in the interim that destroys my initial thoughts. These left-wing zealots make no sense with their conflicting views. For instance:

Our liberal/progressive friends are in favor of curtailing the world's population but are completely in favor of open borders to the United States.

They want to solve our energy problems, but, they oppose more drilling for oil and gas. Years ago they put the skids on nuclear generation of energy — the only immediately available solution to our energy shortages. We are not capable of building enough windmills to solve the situation but that's one of their prime solutions.

Another of their promoted solutions involves harnessing solar energy. We should utilize this alternative as far as practical but we cannot produce enough energy with this method to be more than a drop in the bucket of our total needs. We have enough unclaimed oil and gas to last us 100 years but they are blocking efforts to drill. All of which would serve in the interim of adapting to alternative sources of energy. And, gasoline would be about $1.50 a gallon or less.

The far-left grouses about the “inhuman” treatment of our enemies, captured while attempting to bring death and destruction to Christians, Jews and Americans in general, but march in united lockstep to the tune for late-term abortions.

Members of the radical far-left call for more humane methods of execution for those convicted of ghastly crimes. Hey, how about we execute convicted murders, etc., by sticking a sharp object through their skulls and sucking their brains out. The extreme liberals would freak out at such a notion but this is exactly the manner in which the lives of innocent, near-born children are snuffed out via abortion. Ambivalent? You bet.

These champions of liberalism are forever harping on free speech but when it applies to free speech for opposing views, they ban conservative speakers from campuses, public platforms and vilify conservative students and faculty members with enforcement of “politically correct” rules. They insist they are in favor of a free press, but whenever something contrary to their view is printed in a campus newspaper, they wander around campus and destroy all copies of that newspaper.

Lefties call conservative leaders “brutal despots” and compare them to Hitler. Professors of this stripe indoctrinate their students with their personal form of radical progressive views and shout, “Academic Freedom,” when challenged. Instead, they should be teaching critical individual thinking rather than pouring their personal and often misguided philosophies into the immature brains of their students.

Progressives insist that any vestige or mention of the God of Judaism or Christianity be eliminated from the public scene. But in their view and in the name of “Political Correctness” and “tolerance,” Islam and other religions are not only to be honored but taught in our public schools. That's right — no mention of anything Christian but everything goes regarding the “teaching” of other religions in many classrooms under the guise of “historical understanding.”

They thirst for more “humane” treatment of prisoners-of-war while overlooking the beheading of innocent civilians for real atrocities inflicted on guiltless victims.

Progressives claim they are “family oriented.” The problem is that they are loose with their definition of family and find same-sex marriages acceptable as well as other deviant lifestyles.

Finally, liberals complain about the restrictive doctrine of the Christian church but in the same breath lay down a much more restrictive dogma predicated on “Political Correctness” or an “Occupy” everything philosophy.

So you have to wonder how much longer these folks, who by their own admission constitute no more than twenty percent of Americans, will continue to dupe their fellow citizens with their ridiculous mantras of “Everything is wrong with America.”

Are they suffering from some sort of split personality; are they ignorant or are they just plain dishonest?

Perhaps we will find out when national elections are held this fall.
