I am actually going to complain about the weather. I know, it’s very clique to do so, but I feel justified in my complaint.
I grew up in hot Florida. The weather was either hot, hotter, or raining. Before anyone who lives in Florida, or is from Florida gets upset, I must say I did love growing up at the beach. I loved and adored living so close to all of my extended family.
But the weather was always the same. My attire as a kid from the age of three to ten consisted of one bathing suit or another. I’m not joking when I say that if the weather dipped below 70 degrees, jeans, long sleeves and a jacket were immediately pulled out and put on. Floridians have reptilian blood, and we cannot maintain our core temperature in any weather below 75 degrees.
So when Eric and I got the chance to move to coastal South Carolina, we jumped on it. Eric hates to be land-locked, and truth be told, I don’t think I can do it either. But, not only did we have the beach, we were going to have seasons! It’s the perfect place.
It was a weather miracle.
I bought jackets, jeans, flannel p.j.s and long-sleeve everything for the kids. I would, however, have to call my mom on occasion, and ask her how to layer the kid’s clothes, since it was not a skill I had learned yet. And I finally bought myself my first scarf! I always wanted to wear a super cute coat with an amazing scarf. So exciting.
So people, where are my seasons? Anyone? Why did I have the air conditioning on Christmas Eve? It made me very grumpy. I’ve been in shorts for family Christmas pictures, and I’m over it.
Not only that, but my brain and skin are so confused. One day the air conditioner is on, the next day, the heat. This is very drying to everything. We have chapped lips and noses, and what’s really crazy, is I have one nostril dried up and the other one won’t stop dripping.
I know I could make a choice to just accept the weather and move on. I mean, it really isn’t that big of a problem in the grand scheme of life. Our Christmas was still amazing even with the AC on. No one suffered. And there really is nothing I could do about it other than complain, and that’s not helpful.
I just really miss wearing all my cute scarves. I guess I could dress the way I want to, ignoring the weather all together. I may have to resort to this. So, if you see me passed out somewhere, looking cute in my coat and scarf, you’ll know what choice I made.
