Erin Spatz: Alien abduction
Published Sunday, January 15, 2012 5:48 PM

Occasionally, I  think my children’s brains have been taken over by aliens.

This is not good news for me, since I have a serious fear of any and all aliens.

Yes, this includes E.T.  Don’t judge me.

Sometimes, I will tell them to do the most simple of tasks.

They get halfway through the task and somehow forget what they were supposed to be doing.

For instance, in the morning, I send them into the bathroom to brush their teeth, and when I come to check on them, I discover that not only are they not brushing their teeth, they have forgotten why they were in there in the first place.

Instead, they are making faces at themselves in the mirror.

Clearly, an alien abduction of their brain.

Often, they can’t find the shoes that are clearly right in front of them. I am pretty sure that if there was nothing in the room except for shoes, they still would be unable to find them.

It’s so completely frustrating, I want to bonk them on the head with the shoes.

Alien abduction.

I am pretty sure back-talking is a direct result of alien brain-abduction.

No sane child would talk to their Mother in a manner that would make her consider boarding school in a third world country, unless an alien got to their brain first.

It’s got to be an epidemic.

Or, when they are doing something they know full well they are not allowed to do, like write on the garage door.

What would possess perfectly smart kids to think that writing on the house was a good idea, and that they would not get into big trouble for that?

There can only be one answer. Aliens got them.

The worst though, is when I am looking at one of them, talking about their day or what they are doing, and their eyes just sort of glaze over.

At that moment I know they are gone. Aliens have gotten to their brains again.

I just have to keep repeating their name over and over again until they are set free.

If only I didn’t find aliens so terrifying, I might fight them off ...
