Dave Collison: Perplexing questions

A very wise king once said, “There is nothing new under the sun.”  I have to believe that.

True, things may change a degree or two over time, but when you think about it, other than technology, there is hardly a thing that has not been said or done before.

A rose is still a rose by any other name. My point is that the following questions are nothing new and I am sure that I am not the first to ask them nor put them to print.

Just the same these are some things that I have wondered about and perhaps you may even have the answers to them. I'll start with the basics.

Questions like … 1) Why do the fries on the bottom of the bag always taste better? 2) Can children really tell the difference between a red M&M and a brown one? 3) Do I really have to wait 30 minutes after I eat to go swimming? 4) Why do I always sleep on my right side?

5) Is the bread that is 3 or 4 slices down in the loaf really that much better? 6) Why put the peanut butter on first and then the jelly? Who says you can't do it the other way around?  7) Why ask if someone would like a peanut butter and jelly sandwich versus a jelly and peanut butter sandwich? 8) Why do I have trouble throwing out something I have not worn in two years?

9) How is it that I can remember what happened to me in second grade but can forget someone's name that I just met fifteen minutes ago? 10) How is it that I can be sitting all by myself watching almost the entire football game and just as the biggest play of the game is happening someone walks into the room and wants to talk?

11) Why is it that every time I am in a hurry and need to leave the house, the phone rings? 12) What do you call bats in flight? Flocks? Herds? Groups? Swarms? What?  13) Why is it that the hurry(er) I go the behind(er) I get?

14) Why do I always end up in the slowest checkout lane at the store? 15) Why is common sense not so common? 16) If in the business world the cream rises to the top, why does it seem so many CEO's are crook's? 17) Why does the person in front of me at the checkout line always need a price check? Were there no other like items available with the price tag on it?

18) How come gas for the car is never marked down on 'Black Friday'? 19) Why is there brail lettering at ATM drive-ups? 20) Who was the first person that tried eating a raw oyster and did he do so on a double dare?

21) Count to 5 to yourself.  Whose voice did you hear? Okay, what voice does a person who was born deaf hear when they count to 5 to themselves? 22) Why do we let our pets rule the house? 23) If so many people want to go to heaven why bother going to a doctor? 24) Why do people's driving IQ drop by 25 points when it rains?

 25) Why are people is such a hurry to get to the next red light? 26) Why is there no police officer sitting on the corner when the real idiot driver makes a stupid and dangerous move, but is sitting right there when I don't come to a full stop at the stop sign?

27) Why does the best sleep of the night come between snooze alarms? 28) Does a building burn up or burn down? 29) When the doctor tells me to open wide and say “Ahhhhh,” would it be okay to say “Ohhhhh” instead? 30) Why did you just try saying both “Ahhhh” and “Ohhhh”?

31) What do you get for setting the new record for holding your breath underwater for 19 minutes and 21 seconds? 32) Why would you even want to hold your breath for that long?

 33) Why do I even waste my time thinking about such things?
