Andrews Elementary teacher nabs 400-pound alligator
Charity Eppolito, an art teacher at Andrews Elementary School, recently landed her first alligator in the Sampit River. This was the first year Eppolito received an alligator tag and it took three trips to catch an alligator.Eppolito got a little help from her husband, Mark, a physical education teacher at Sampit Elementary School, and her friend Mason Mau.Eppolito snagged and lost a gator in White's Creek before spotting a 9-foot long gator in the river. She battled for 30 minutes while Mau manned a spotlight and her husband tried to keep her from falling out of the boat.As the fight was winding down, Mark Eppolito asked his wife if she wanted to dispatch the alligator.“No you do it,” she said. “I am shaking too hard to keep the gun straight and don't dare let the pole go yet.”Once the gator was finished it took all three of them to lift the 400-pound reptile into the boat. Eppolito is originally from Iowa and she and Mark have lived in the area for seven years.
