More fire-damaged buildings to be leveled Thursday
Bulldozers will be in the 700 block of Front Street Thursday taking down most of the remaining buildings that were nearly destroyed by last week’s fire.
Georgetown City Administrator Chris Carter said today permission has been given to take down the remains of Buzz’s Roost, Harborwalk Books and Colonial Floral Fascinations.
Limpin’ Janes, where it is believed the fire began, has already been taken down.
Mayor Jack Scoville said as of now Goudelock & Co., which was next to Limpin’ Janes, may not have to be taken down.
Jonathan Heald, the city’s public services director, said three bids were received for the demolition. Coastal Structures was awarded the contract for $5,500.
Heald said any of the debris that lands on the sidewalk or on Front Street will be pushed back onto the property lines of the owners of the buildings.
He said the city is paying for the work but the cost may possibly be passed on to the property owners at a later time.
