My family and I just did one of my favorite things ever! It's one of my top five favorite things to do as a family.
Family photos! Yep, it's true. I love, love, love going to have family photos taken!
My five favorite things to do as a family are: 1) Disney, 2) Great Wolf Lodge, 3) Family Photos, 4) Beach 5) Any festival involving food.
And I don't mean family photos like going to Olan Mills in matching sweaters and sweat suits – God forbid. I mean having a real photographer taking real photos in a real place.
And my favorite photographer in the world to take our photos, is the super amazing Meghan Whitney.
She somehow how manages to make us all look like we belong in a J.Crew catalog!
And I don't care who you are, there is nothing more fun than channeling your inner super model, while someone is complimenting you the whole time. If I could fit it into my weekly schedule, I would probably do it once a week for the rest of my life for the ego boost.
We get to be outside, which we already love, next to water (again, love.) The kids are free to run around, climb trees and jump, all while Meghan is shooting sweet photos that capture my kid's personalities. No one is told to sit still or to fake smile. We look like ourselves, only better!
The kids love it, because Meghan manages to make it fun and interesting.
She tells them all what we are going to do, and throws in a bit of history about the location. She compliments them on how good they are being, even when they are rolling around in the sand.
Because even as they are rolling in the sand or fighting, she still sees how beautiful they are and continues to take pictures, capturing the real Dylan, Autumn, Denver and Chandler, in all their wild, crazy glory.
Anyone want to guess who complains? If you said Eric, you're right.
He loves Meghan's work, he just hates getting his photo taken. Which is a bit annoying, because I think he is really photogenic.
And while I have managed to overcome my past trauma of being squished in a portrait studio with my siblings, he has not.
He has post-portrait studio syndrome (or PPSS for short.)
But he knows how much I love it, and because he loves me so much he does it with less complaining as soon as I say but it's Meghan.
And, he knows that without Meghan Whitney our next stop would be the portrait studio!
While I love channeling my inner super model, what I really love is how she captures our love for each other. And each time I look at the photos, I am reminded that my family is beautiful.
And nothing is more important than family.
