Erin Spats: Crying, stomping and whining. Add in the dirt. Oh, and it’s only 1 p.m.

Holy Moly! It has been one of those days. The kind where I wish the name Mommy would be forgotten by my children.

They have whined and grumped their way through the day. As I write this, it is only 1 p.m.

Still a LONG day ahead of us.

It started with breakfast.

They whined all through it because I told them when breakfast was over they would have to get dressed and put away their laundry.

The sounds that came from their bodies were the equivalent of pigs off to slaughter as opposed to children putting away p.j.'s.

I mean really.

I have done the hard part already. The washing, folding, putting on hangers and then putting it in a laundry basket with their name on it.

I wish someone would do that for me.

Then came the announcement that the play room needed to be tidied as well as beds made.

This was received with roughly 20-30 minutes of crying, stomping and whining. During which I did think to myself "you could have been done already."

Oh, and let's not forget that every 5-10 minutes someone is asking for a snack or drink (the first snack request came literally 3 minutes after that particular child left the breakfast table) .

In the midst of all of this I am trying in vain to do laundry and clean the house. Which is dumb because the dog, who may be looking for a new home, thought it was a good idea to lie down and roll in a mud puddle.

Then he came back inside to lay his soggy wet stinky dog self on the floor I had just mopped.

Oh, yeah, you read that right.

I should just make peace with the dirt and let it move in, maybe then I wouldn't feel the need to clean it up.

I have heard the name Mommy pronounced in a least 17 different octaves and with around 20 syllables.

Is it wrong to wish I had ear plugs? Do you think health insurance would cover permanent earplugs? Kind of a reverse hearing aid?

At one point today, I heard "Mommy" so high pitched and so drawn out that I'm sure the dogs in China heard it.

When I get my padded room, I'm praying it has a nice view.
