William S. Bryan Jr.

William Stanley Bryan Jr., 83, of Valdosta, Ga., died Thursday, May 15, 2008, in South Georgia Medical Center in Valdosta.

Arrangements will be announced by the Georgetown Chapel of Mayer Funeral Home.

Ellen Green

Ellen Green, 84, of Andrews, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008 at Mt. Lebanon AME Church with Rev. Wallace McKnight Sr. officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Green was born Nov. 5, 1923 in Williamsburg County, a daughter of the late Sarah Darby Jordon.

She was a member of Mt. Lebanon AME Church, where she was an emeritus life member of both the trustee and stewardess board. She was a member of Home Charity Lodge No. 15.

Survivors include: three daughters, Sarah Williams, Willie Mae Lawson and Shirley Jiles of Andrews; four sons, Lawrence O'Neil McCray, James D. McCray, Frankie L. McCray and Minister Anthony G. McCray of Andrews; one sister, Myrtle Sparkman of Andrews; 30 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great grandchildren.

McKnight-Fraser Funeral Homes is in charge of arrangements.

Fannie Bolyn James

Fannie Mae Eaddy Bolyn James, 86, of Coward, widow of Thomas James, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2008 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway. Graveside services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, 2008 in the Poplar Hill Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery, directed by Morris Funeral Home.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2008.

Mrs. James was born in Johnsonville, a daughter of the late Oscar and Ivory Altman Eaddy. She was a homemaker and attended Grace and Glory Church.

Mrs. James was first married to the late Haskel E. Bolyn and was predeceased by a son, Ray Eaddy.

Surviving are: her children, Shirley coward and Margie Lynch (Ben), both of Coward; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Ruth Eaddy of Scranton; four grandchildren, Benjy, John, Mike and Jerry; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.

Helen A. Richardson

Helen Andersen Richardson, 82, of Conway, wife of the late L.B. Richardson, died Monday, May 12, 2008 at Conway Manor.

A funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008 from the Brown Swamp United Methodist Church with the Rev. John Preer and the Rev. David Day officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, directed by Goldfinch Funeral Home, Conway Chapel. The family will receive friends before the service, from 2:30 until 4 p.m., at the church.

Mrs. Richardson was born in Conway, a daughter of the late Zack Dusenbury and Thelma Haskins Andersen. She was a member of Brown Swamp United Methodist Church. Mrs. Richardson retired from Farm Credit Services. She was predeceased by two sisters, Amelia Burnette and Almira Jones; and one brother, Zack Andersen.

Surviving are two sons, Harvey Len Richardson (Sara) and Phillip Mike Richardson (Kathy), all of Conway; two daughters, Pam Koon (Alton) of Aynor, and Myra Lane Jones (Joey) of Lugoff; five grandchildren, Jennifer Richardson, Jill Jenerette, Jamie Calder, Michael Richardson, and Kyle Richardson; three great-grandchildren, Taylor Calder, Jenna Richardson, and Ruby Anna Jenerette; two sisters, Mary Jane Ricks of Georgetown and Nancy Preston of Stuart, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Mary Addie Hardwick of Conway.

William H. Rutherford

William Heath Rutherford, 78, of Surfside Beach, died Wednesday, May 7, 2008.

Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 in the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection. Presiding over the service was The Very Rev. Edward T. Kelaher. Inurnment followed in the church columbarium immediately following the service.

Born in Montgomery, Ala., he was the son of the late C.D. and Lois Rutherford. He achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Air Force and the District of Columbia National Guard for more than 30 years. He was stationed at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base four times during his career. Rutherford flew a number of aircraft including the F-86H, F-100D and A-7D. He was the chief of airfield management at Myrtle Beach Air Force Base when he retired in November 1981. He also served a tour in Vietnam in 1969 and 1970, where he flew 100 combat missions.

Mr. Rutherford's military awards and decorations include the Air medal with four oak leaf clusters, Air Force Commendation Medal, Purple Heart, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Meritorious Service Medal. There will be a street, ''Rutherford Loop,'' named for him at the Market Common on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force base.

From 1957 to 1968, he served as a detective sergeant on Prince George's County, Md. police department. Following retirement, he earned a real estate broker's license and a real estate appraisal license. He worked as a flight coordinator with The North American Institute of Aviation in Conway.

Mr. Rutherford was an active member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, serving in many capacities such as licensed lay reader, vestry and president of the Men's Club. He was active in the Cursillo movement within the Diocese of South Carolina.

Surviving are: his wife of 54 years, Jean Rutherford; son Allen Rutherford; granddaughter, Ashley Growden; great-grandson, Bradley Growden; sister, Rosanne Schoen; and niece, Laura Eser.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Cynthia R. Lambe.

Debra R. Simmons

Debra "Debbie" Roberts Simmons, 52, of Georgetown, wife of Wendell LeGrand Simmons, died Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at the Georgetown Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, May 16, 2008, at the Johnson Chapel Baptist Church.

Committal ceremony will follow at 3:30 p.m. in the Pauley Swamp Baptist Church Cemetery in Conway directed by the Georgetown Chapel of McKenzie Funeral Home.

Visitation was from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at the Georgetown Chapel.

Mrs. Simmons was born April 25, 1956, in Conway, the daughter of Leo Benford Roberts and Ercell Leona Martin. She was a LPN at the Georgetown Memorial Hospital and a member of the Johnson Chapel Baptist Church, where she was a choir member and a Sunday School teacher.

The couple celebrated their 33th Anniversary July 23, 2007, and from their union survives two children, Adison L. "Andy" Simmons (Teresa Payton) of Georgetown: and Briana S. Lambert (Rick) of Columbia; four grandchildren, Damian Simmons, Devon Payton, Brock Lambert and Brea Lambert; two sisters, Brenda R. Justice (Lee) of Surfside Beach and Vera R. Kirkland of Georgetown.

Frances T. Sutherland

Frances Elizabeth Thompson Sutherland, 81, of Surfside Beach, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008 at National Health Care of Garden City Beach.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 in Graham Cemetery, Conway.

Mrs. Sutherland was born in Honea Path, S.C., and was a daughter of the late Robert and Della Thompson. Mrs. Sutherland was a homemaker and was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Sutherland.

Surviving are her son, Joe Sutherland of Myrtle Beach; two daughters, Sara Taylor of Parkton, N.C., and Diane Prince of Anderson; one stepdaughter, Janice Turner of Conway; and nine grandchildren.

Lynn M. Watford

Lynn Morris "Miss Lynn" Watford, 56, of Augusta, Ga., wife of 38 years of Ronald Watford, died Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Heartland Hospice.

A memorial service was held on Monday, May 12, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Wesley United Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Porterfield officiating. The family received friends after the service.

A nurse since 1972, Mrs. Watford worked in emergency care. She was a flight nurse for the Doctor's Hospital Burn Center for seven years.

In addition to her husband, Ron, she is survived by her sons, Ronald G. Watford, Jr. of Evans, and Craigory Shea Watford of Banner Elk, N.C., her parents, Carol and Leona Morris of Darlington; a daughter-in-law, Michelle Paulk of Greer; a brother, William Carol Morris Jr. of Andrews; and her three grandchildren, Brandon Martin Watford, Alyssa Paulk, and Reagan Paulk.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Lydia Project, 1321 Arsenal Avenue, Augusta, GA 30904.

Arrangements were handled by Platt's Funeral Home.
