J. Reese Daniel
J. Reese Daniel, 83, of Pawleys Island and formerly of Columbia, died Friday, May 9, 2008.
Graveside services were held Sunday, May 11, 2008 at 3:30 p.m. in Greenlawn Memorial Park, under the direction of Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel in Columbia.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at 2 p.m. at Georgetown Presbyterian Church.
Born in Sanford, N.C. on Dec. 24, 1924, Mr. Daniel was a son of the late Jesse Reese and Edna Wilson Daniel. He graduated from Greenville High School in 1941 at the age of 15 and was a freshman at Clemson University when Pearl Harbor was bombed. He worked in the shipyard until he was old enough to join the Navy.
Mr. Daniel served on a destroyer escort in the South Pacific as a sonar man petty officer for three years, through the recapture of the Philippines. He returned to school on the GI bill and was an alumnus from Clemson University, Furman University and the University of South Carolina. He then graduated from the USC School of Journalism in 1949. He was a member of Pi Kappa Phi fraternity. Mr. Daniel was a reporter for four years with the Charleston News and Courier, United Press wire service and The State newspaper. He returned to school and graduated second in his class with a Juris Doctor degree from the USC Law School. He was a member of Phi Delta Phi International legal fraternity, Wig and Robe honor society and Law Review.
In 1955 Mr. Daniel was admitted to the South Carolina and federal bars. He was in active practice, first in Columbia and then on Pawleys Island until 1990. Mr. Daniel helped incorporate the Town of Pawleys Island, Seabrook Island, Kiawah Island, Rockville on Wadmalaw Island and James Island. Since 1956, he was on the General Counsel for the South Carolina Automobile Dealers Association. Mr. Daniel was the first town attorney for Pawleys Island and was a member of the American, Richland and Georgetown County bar associations. He was the first editor of the South Carolina Bar newsletter, vice chairman of the Columbia Zoning Board of Adjustment for ten years, substitute judge of the Richland County Court for three years and Supreme Court Board of Grievances and Discipline for two years. He was an author of many articles in the American Bar Journal, Case and Comment, Flying Magazine and several newspapers. He was a member of Forest Lake Country Club and The Summit Club of Columbia. Mr. Daniel was a private pilot with ratings for single engine land and sea and multi-engine land and instrument. He also loved boating and once built an 18-foot houseboat on the front porch of his home.
Mr. Daniel was an elder, deacon, Sunday School teacher and Scoutmaster at Eastminster Presbyterian Church. He later transferred his letter to Georgetown Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Phyllis Ford Connell Daniel of Pawleys Island; daughter, Molly Elizabeth Daniel of Georgetown; son Michael Reese Daniel (Adrienne); grandson, Gerald Reese Daniel (Olivia); great-grandson, Jacob Reese Daniel, all of Mt. Pleasant. He was predeceased by his first wife, Kitty Cassels Daniel and a son, James Patrick Daniel.

William C. Eaddy
William C. Eaddy, 98, of Johnsonville, died Thursday, May 8, 2008 in a Florence nursing center.
Funeral services were held at 5 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008 in the Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Hemingway, with burial in the Garden of Devotion Cemetery.
Mr. Eaddy was born in Florence County, a son of the late William Madison and Aline Jacobs Eaddy. He attended Johnsonville schools and was a retired farmer. He was the oldest member of the Vox United Methodist Church, as well the oldest and a life member of the Leo Masonic Lodge No. 310.
He was married to the late Dorothy Hanna Eaddy.
Surviving are: his children, William R. Eaddy (Nina) of Hemingway and Virginia E. Weatherford (Mac) of Lake City; granddaughter Stephanie E. Hogan (Marshall) of Orangeburg; great-granddaughter, Bailey R. Hogan of Orangeburg; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Ralph R. Fralix
Ralph Richard Fralix, 72, of Rock Hill, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at First Baptist Church in Rock Hill, with the Rev. Steve Hogg, the Rev. Charlie Lucas and the Rev. Thomas Miller officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Park, with full military honors presented by the U.S. Air Force.
The family received friends from 6:30 until 8 p.m. Sunday, May 11, 2008 in Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, Rock Hill.
Mr. Fralix was born in Mascot, Tenn., and was the son of Laura Carathers Fralix of Dandridge, Tenn., and the late Burl W. Fralix. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, and retired after 20 years in the U.S. Air Force. He also retired from Duke Power Company, Catawba Nuclear Station as an I&E Supervisor. Mr. Fralix was a member of the Duke Power Company Retirement Club. In addition to his father, Mr. Fralix was preceded in death by his grandchild, Charlene Thompkins; and his great-grandchild, Hunter Benton.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Fralix is survived by his wife, Margaret Howell Fralix; his daughters, Karen Allred (Dean) of Burlington, N.C., Sharon Faulkenberry (Bill) of Rock Hill, Kathy Thompkins (Charley) of Hemingway, Sandra Miller (Thomas) of Jonesborough, Tenn., and Lisa Jones (David) of Rock Hill; his sisters, Eileen Fralix and Elaine Fralix, both of Dandridge, Tenn.; his grandchildren, Carmen Benton, Megan Simpson, Matthew Simpson, Amanda Faulkenberry, Ashley Faulkenberry, Savannah Jones, and Cody Jones; and his great-grandchildren, Morgan Simpson and Hannah Benton.

Joyce E. Jackson
Joyce Elliott Jackson, 62, of Marion, wife of Ivey Dean Jackson, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at her home.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Neil Hinson, the Rev. Richard Huggins, and the Rev. Thad Jacobs officiating. Entombment will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, directed by Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
Visitation was held from 6 until 8 p.m., Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Smith-Collins Funeral Home.
Mrs. Jackson was born Nov. 25, 1945 in Horry County, a daughter of the late James Harvey Elliott and the late Myrtle Emanuel Elliott. She retired as the secretary for the Marion County Sheriff's Department. Mrs. Jackson was a member of Mullins-Marion Freewill Baptist Church.
Surviving Mrs. Jackson in addition to her husband of the home are her daughters, Janet Davis (Steven) of Mullins, Angie McDaniels (Clayton) of Mullins, Jill Hardee (Kelvin) of Galivants Ferry, Kim Hobbs (Rodney) of Summerton, and Karen Rabon (the Rev. Teddy Rabon) of Georgetown; 12 grandchildren; a brother, Johnny R. Elliott (Janice) of Florence; and a sister, Charlene Strickland (Terry) of Green Sea.
Mrs. Jackson was predeceased by a brother, Evander Elliott.

Boyd Prosser
Boyd "Sonny Boy" Prosser, 73, of Georgetown, died Friday, May 9, 2008 at his residence.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, May 12, 2008 at First Assembly of God. Officiating will be Dr. C. Bradley Morris and Rev. Steve Mueller. Burial, directed by Graham Funeral Home, will follow in Pennyroyal Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Prosser was born July 26, 1934 in Florence County, a son of the late Lydia Zoland Prosser and the late Beulah Venters Prosser.
Mr. Prosser was a retired power house operator with International Paper Company. He attended First Assembly of God where he attended the adult Sunday School class. He was a lifetime member of the North American Fishing Association and a member of the National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening.
Surviving are: his wife, Sara Jo Prosser; one son, John Edward Prosser of Garden City Beach; a special friend, Charles A. Hill of Garden City Beach; a special son, Jamie Poston of Georgetown; one sister, Margie Bellflowers (Billy) of Johnsonville; one daughter-in-law, Tangie Prosser Self of Georgetown; two grandchildren, Brian O'Neal Prosser (Heather) of Mt. Pleasant, and Tracy Elliott of Georgetown; four great-grandchildren, Katelyn Price, Madison Price, Brier O'Neal "Little Buddy" Prosser, and Hannah Marie Bridges; four step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son, Bobby O'Neal Prosser in 1979.

Willie Smith
Willie Smith, 79, of Georgetown died Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Tidelands Community Hospice of Georgetown.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 in the Open Bible Tabernacle Church in the North Santee community.
Viewing is prior to the service, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., at the church. Burial will follow at the Mt. Zion AME Church Cemetery in the North Santee Community.
Mr. Smith was born Dec. 1, 1937, a son of the late Jerry Smith and the late Victoria Hamilton Smith. He attended Georgetown County public schools and Mt. Zion AME Church. He was a disabled logger.
Survivors are his sisters, Mrs. Annie Gilmore and Mrs. Carrie Duncan, both of Georgetown.

Rhetta L. Strong
Rhetta Lee Strong, 59, of Kingstree, died Friday, May 9, 2008, at Williamsburg Regional Hospital.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 12, 2008 at the graveside in McClary Cemetery near Kingstree. Officiating will be the Rev. Donnie Witherspoon and the Rev. Lee Walters.

Ms. Strong was born in Kingstree on June 7, 1948, a daughter of Hattie Lois Miles Strong and the late John Calvin "Bruce" Strong, Jr. She was a graduate of Kingstree High School and worked in the trucking business until she became ill. Ms. Strong was a member of Cades Baptist Church.
Ms. Strong was predeceased by a sister, Cynthia Joan Strong.
Surviving in addition to her mother of Kingstree are: a son, D. Walters of Andrews; a daughter, Donna Marie Walters of Scranton; her twin sister, Etta Marie Hammet of Kingstree; a brother, Bruce Wayne Strong of Kingstree; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Edward Earl Wright
Edward Earl Wright, 47, of Hemingway, died Tuesday, May 6, 2008, at his home.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Born Feb. 15, 1961 in New Haven, Conn. to Ed Matthew Wright Sr. and Dorothy Mae Langley Wright. Mr. Wright was employed with Sam Snead's Restaurant.
Survivors include his four brothers: Ed Matthew Wright of New Haven, Conn., Edward Eli Wright of Murrells Inlet, Timothy Wright of Hemingway, and Dari Rel Gates of Brunswick, Ga.

Geneva Young-Langley
Mrs. Geneva Elizabeth Young-Langley, 51, of Hemingway, died Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
An organ tissue donor, Mrs. Young-Langley's body will be researched and cremated by Science Care.
Born March 14, 1957 in Winston-Salem, N.C., she was the tenth of 13 children.
Survivors include: her husband, Jimmy Langley of Hemingway; her two daughters, Genevieve Cullars and Amanda Cullars; her son, Raymond Young (Chris); and eight grandchildren.

To the family of Mr. Boyd, I am sincerely expressing my deepest heartfelt apologies for not being with the family today, I just heard of the loss and I will keep you all on the prayer list at my church...again I am so sorry for your loss...Johnny, your dad always treated me as his own...he was a very kind and special man. I will pray for God to give you the strength to endure this loss and the knowledge to know that he no longer has to endure any health problems any more. Your friend for life...
