An Andrews man remained in jail Tuesday, three days after he allegedly stabbed his estranged wife.

Victor Anderson of Andrews has been charged with attempted murder, according to Georgetown County Detention Center records.

He is accused of stabbing and cutting 40-year-old Vera Anderson Saturday evening, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

The victim lives in Columbia, according to the incident report. She and Victor Anderson have three children and have been separated for about six years.

Because Vera Anderson drove to the Andrews Food Lion for help after she was stabbed, it was at first believed that is where the assault occurred.

But, according to information released Monday, the incident occurred at the home of Victor Anderson at 102 Olmstead Place in Andrews.

The incident report describes Vera Anderson’s injury as a “severe laceration.” According to witnesses at Food Lion, the injury was to her neck area.

She was rushed to Grand Strand Hospital where she underwent surgery and is continuing to recover.

A woman who was in Food Lion at the time, who asked that her name not be used, said she saw the victim immediately after it happened.

“She was screaming for help. At first I thought she had fallen but when I looked back she was holding her neck. There was blood everywhere,” she said, adding some Food Lion employees and customers applied pressure to the area until EMS arrived, until the help came. “I wish it was a scene I didn't see because it's upsetting to know someone could do another person like that.”

The motive for the alleged attack is still unknown.

When investigators arrived at Victor Anderson’s home they saw blood on the front stoop and a bloody pack of cigarettes on the front porch, the report states.

Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson said investigators were not able to speak with the victim until Tuesday because of her condition.

Anderson was not at his home when officers arrived. He was found a short time later at a residence on Howell Street. He was denied bond at a hearing Monday.
