A woman who led Georgetown County deputies and other law enforcement officers on a high speed chase Monday morning reportedly got out of her car drinking a bottle of Tequila.

According to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson, a deputy attempted to make a traffic stop after clocking 40 year old Sandra D. Cook, 40, of 211 Covey Point Court in the Murrells Inlet driving 88 mph in a 45 mph zone in Pawleys Island at about 11 a.m.

Cook failed to stop and led deputies on a pursuit from Pawleys Island south into the city limits of Georgetown, Cuthbertson said.

She then turned left onto Cannon Street and then made her way back to Highway 17 and headed north with a parade of law enforcement vehicles in pursuit.

“Stop sticks were deployed just north of the Waccamaw River Bridge. The vehicle finally stopped just north of the Martin Luther King Road and Highway 17 traffic light in Pawleys Island,” Cuthbertson said.

Cook was able to drive about a mile after one of her front tires blew out.

“There were no injuries or damage to property other than the subject’s vehicle,” Cuthbertson said. “After Cook exited the vehicle she began walking away from deputies drinking a bottle of Tequila but was quickly taken into custody.”

She has been charged with Failure to Stop for a Blue light, Driving Under Suspension, Reckless Driving and Open Container. Cook is currently being held at the Georgetown County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
