A Georgetown County woman was killed on her birthday Sunday in a one-vehicle accident.
The crash happened at about 12:15 a.m. Sunday on Highway 51 near Browns Ferry Bridge.
Coroner Kenny Johnson said 26-year-old Dorlena Scott of Shannon Drive — whose birthday was Sunday — died a couple of hours after the accident.
According to the S.C. Highway Patrol the 2000 Chevrolet Impala, in which Scott was a passenger left the roadway for unknown reasons and struck a tree.
One EMS official said the car was split in two.
Scott was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina.
“She died about ten minutes before she was supposed to go into surgery,” Johnson said.
The condition of the 24-year-old driver — who was transported to Georgetown Memorial Hospital — is unknown.
The incident is still under investigation.
