Edward McCain, 19, was given two life sentences plus 30 years for a 2008 murder and attempted murder that occurred in Georgetown’s West End.
The sentence was handed down Monday in Federal Court in Charleston.
In October, McCain entered a guilty plea to charges of using a firearm to kill 18-year-old James Fannin and injuring 28-year-old Glen Crawford, according to U.S. Attorney W. Walter Wilkins.
He said evidence indicates McCain shot at the victims six times because they provided police with information in an investigation.
The shootings took place near the intersection of Hazard and Emanuel streets.
After being shot, the two victims were able to drive themselves from the area of Mike Johnson Baseball Park to the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office on North Fraser Street where they called for help.
After being transported to the Georgetown Memorial Hospital, it was decided to transfer both victims to the Medical University of South Carolina for treatment. Fannin, who was shot in the head, died en route to Charleston. Crawford survived.
Georgetown Police Chief Paul Gardner said one life sentence was for the murder, The second was for the illegal use of a firearm.
The 30 year sentence was for the attempted murder of Crawford.
