Rain causes road washout in Plantersville
The excessive rain that has fallen over Georgetown County the past several days caused a washout on Exodus Drive near Highway 701 in Plantersville. The sinkhole formed Monday night and the road remained blocked off to traffic Tuesday. Between noon Friday and 3 p.m. Tuesday, according to the National Weather Service, rainfall amounts ranged from about 1.5 inches in the southeastern areas of Georgetown County — from Maryville to North Santee — to as much as 5 inches in some areas in the center of the county. Most of the county picked up at least 3 to 4 inches. The good news is the 4th of July weekend is expected to be much drier.
