GEORGETOWN, S.C. — A 13-year-old remains hospitalized as he recovers from a stabbing while his cousin of the same age is charged with causing the injury.

The charges against the accused teen were filed Thursday.

According to Georgetown police, the incident happened at about 6:50 p.m. Wednesday outside an apartment on Avant Court after the two had been arguing most of the day.

When police arrived, they saw the injured teen on the ground bleeding from his stomach area.

“There were about 50 people, mostly juveniles, in the area. Most appearing to be extremely hyped up posed to fight,” according to a police report.

The report says the teen accused of the stabbing had been chased by a group of about ten juveniles earlier, but he was able to get inside his home and lock the door.

The sister of the suspected teen said the group then “proceeded to kick in the door and tried to go upstairs after” her brother.

While police were on the scene, “numerous threatening juveniles and adults were running up to (the apartment) trying to gain access” but they were forced to leave, the report states.

Also while police were on the scene, another teen walked up to the apartment demanding to be able to fight the alleged suspect. He refused to obey the officer’s orders to stop shouting profanity and to leave, so he was arrested.

Another teen, allegedly acting in the same manner — who was also reportedly trying to incite the crowd to fight — was also arrested.

Police arrested a third teen who told police if they tried to handcuff him, “it would be on,” the report states.

The teen accused of the stabbing was taken into custody as well and was transported to the police department where he was interviewed.

He was later transported to the Department of Juvenile Justice in Columbia.

Police Capt. Nelson Brown said the victim was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
