A raid of a Georgetown business this week resulted in charges being levied against the owner and the confiscation of more than $35,000 worth of counterfeit items.

According to the Georgetown Police Department, the investigation zeroed on KY’s Hot Ware at 2012  Highmarket Street.

Police joined the S.C. Attorney General’s Office in the investigation for alleged violations of the state’s trade and commerce statutes.

“Investigators observed numerous violations of counterfeit clothing and shoes,” said police spokesman Capt. Nelson Brown.

The value of the merchandise was valued at $35,175 which included about 250 pairs of shoes, 46 articles of clothing, six pairs of sunglasses, Brown said.

Also seized was  $1,572 in cash and a vehicle used to transport the merchandise.

The owner, Keith Carn of Myrtle Beach was charged with distribution of counterfeit goods. He faces a possible $20,000 fine and five years in prison if convicted.

Bond was set at $15,000.

Brown said information about the Georgetown store came to light after a similar raid in Andrews last week.

In that case two men — Saul Alexander Davis, of Andrews, and Tyreese T. Brown, of Georgetown — were hit with the same charges after police seized $53,760 worth of merchandise in raids at Top Notch and TJ's Fashion  in Andrews.
