Heavy rain causes street flooding in Georgetown
According to the National Weather Service radar estimates, the City of Georgetown picked up about 1.5 inches of rain Tuesday.
It fell in a short amount of time and caused street flooding in some parts of the city. Portions of Fraser Street had to be blocked to traffic for a while as deep water crossed the highway.
The flooding had some asking if the new drainage system installed next to City Hall was operating as promised.
Mayor Jack Scoville said the system does not yet cover the areas of South Fraser Street where the worst of the flooding occurred.
He said city staff will investigate to determine if the system operated properly.
