Santa was star of the show at Georgetown’s Christmas parade on Saturday.
Red and green balloons added to the festive atmosphere of Saturday’s “Small Town Christmas Parade” as a local merchant passed them out along the parade route in front of The Georgetown Times.
The weather was nearly perfect and the crowd was excited for the annual Georgetown County Christmas Parade which was held Saturday on Front Street.
With temperatures in the mid-60s, the several dozen parade participants were greeted by thousands of cheering residents and visitors who lined the sidewalks from near East Bay Park to Dozier Street.
Pawleys Island Mayor Bill Otis was the grand marshal for the parade.
Parade organizer Aimee Salmon said Otis was chosen because he is a prominent figure in Georgetown County and he is a great role model for children.
There were winners from seven categories chosen by judges Beth Killen, Katherine Kossove and Julie Osteen.
The winners were:
• Most humorous: Omar jailbirds Shrine unit
• Most creative: South Carolina Maritime Museum
• Best holiday: Ringel Heights Baptist Church
• Best children’s: Carolina Misses Baton, Pom and Dance
• Best new entry: The Center for Birds of Prey
• Honorable mention: Cub Scout Pack 384
• Honorable mention: Studio of Dance

The Sampit Christmas Parade will be Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Andrews Christmas Parade will be Sunday at 3 p.m.
The Plantersville Christmas Parade will take place at 1 p.m. Christmas Day.
