State Rep. Carl Anderson, a Democrat seeking reelection to the House 103 seat, has picked up the endorsement of Georgetown Mayor Jack Scoville.

In a press release issued this week, Scoville said Anderson “has been a staunch friend to the City of Georgetown since he has been in the Legislature. He has done everything we ever asked of him.”

Scoville notes one of the biggest issues facing the city is the dredging of the Port which will cost an estimated $33 million.

“Carl served on the Dredging Task Force with me and other community leaders. He has been on the ball in getting state funding for the dredging,” Scoville says.

He also says Anderson was instrumental in helping get the steel mill after it closed several years ago, funding for the city’s drainage project and is a supporter of improving public education in the state.

“Georgetown County sent an inexperienced, novice representative to Columbia last term in House District 108’s Kevin Ryan. After only one term Ryan decided to retire, meaning the seat will go to another novice next term. Georgetown County cannot afford to have two freshman representatives in the House.”

Anderson faces Republican petition candidate Tom Winslow on next month’s ballot.
