Authorities not told about hospital bomb drill

Georgetown County deputies and firefighters were rushed to Waccamaw Community Hospital Thursday afternoon after someone reported finding what looked like a bomb outside the facility.

As it turns out the device — wrapped in black tape with wires showing — was purposely placed there but, fortunately, it was not real.

It was a fake bomb placed by hospital personnel as part of a drill that was taking place.

However, no one notified local authorities that a drill was taking place leading to some very tense moments.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Neil Johnson said when he heard the description of what was found, it "sounded like the real thing."

Johnson said he later received a call from hospital officials who assured they will be notified of future drills.
