When will the City of Georgetown’s Drainage Project be complete?

Last month the South Carolina Department of Transportation said it would wrap up its work in December. Today, the agency said the completion will be in early 2013.

According to a press release from the SCDOT, Uretek ICR, began additional sealing and grouting operations at the wet well at the corner of Front and Dozier Streets on August 10th. Dewatering operations will begin when the sealing operation has been completed.  It is anticipated that dewatering will begin after Labor Day.  

Once dewatering has been completed, the construction of the wet well and the City Hall storage pond will continue.  

An extensive monitoring plan will be implemented during the dewatering to ensure that the Uretek sealing operation is successful.  The monitoring plan includes real time analysis of water levels and pressure from monitoring wells installed throughout the project area.  Stop points have been identified so that the dewatering can be halted immediately if necessary.  

Last year, before the dewatering process was suspended, sinkholes formed in areas around where the work was taking place. The sinkholes damaged some buildings and destroyed one — Parrish Place — was destroyed.
