A suspicious item found at a Maryville home this evening was a practice bomb used by aircraft, according to Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson.

Georgetown County deputies and the Horry County Explosive Ordnance Division responded to a home on Golf Drive off of South Island Road.

Cuthbertson said a deputy was stopped by the homeowner who said he found the object while digging in his back yard. Deputies have secured the area and the Horry County authorities were contacted.

Horry county has taken possession of the device, Cuthbertson said.
