Three of the county’s four high school boys basketball team posted region victories on Jan. 18.
Monte McCrea had 16 points as Andrews held off Timberland 55-53.
The Yellow Jackets led 19-13 at the end of the first quarter, and maintained the six-point advantage at halftime. After extending the lead to 48-39 at the end of the third quarter, Andrews was outscored 14-7 in the fourth, but held on for the victory.
Travis Collins had 12 points, Johnel Grant had 10, Jowan Grant had eight, and D.J. Lawerence had five.
The Lady Yellow Jackets lost 43-31 to Timberland.
Da’Shaun Aiken and Walter Linnen combined for 41 points in the Bears’ 62-56 win over Hemingway.
The Tigers led 18-11 at the end of the first quarter, but Carvers Bay put up 16 points in the second quarter to take a one-point lead into halftime.
The Bears then outscored the Tigers by five in the second half for the victory.
Aiken had 21 points, two rebounds and two steals; and Linnen had 20 points, three rebounds and five steals.
Shayton Durand had nine points and eight rebounds; Chris Carter had four points and three rebounds; and Darius Williams had four points and 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bears lost 48-43 to Hemingway.
Charlie McGirt had 21 points to lead the Bulldogs past Wilson 55-49.
Georgetown led 12-9 at the end of the first quarter and 26-23 at halftime. After Wilson went ahead 39-35 in the third quarter, the Bulldogs used a 20-point fourth to seal the region victory.
McGirt also had 12 rebounds.
Leslie Chen had nine points; Stephon Cuttino had eight points and four rebounds; Michael Billings had five points and five rebounds; Olajuwon Doiley had four points; Dae’Quan Gibson had five rebounds and three steals; Anthony Blair had seven rebounds; and A.J. Walker had five rebounds.
The Lady Bulldogs lost 55-51 to Wilson.
