Gun buyback is Saturday morning
Published Wednesday, May 02, 2012 8:26 AM

Back in December, local authorities and area ministers teamed up to take 35 guns off the streets as part of the first “Gun Buy Back Program.”

They are doing it again this Saturday.

The program — sponsored by the Georgetown Police Department, Georgetown County Sheriff’s Office and the Georgetown Ministerial Association — allows Georgetown County residents to exchange handguns for a $100 WalMart gift card.

The money used for the program comes from seized funds taken from drug dealers.

Police say no tax dollars are used for the program.

Police and deputies will be at Georgetown City Hall from 10 a.m. until noon Saturday where they will hand out the gift cards to each individual who delivers a handgun.

The unloaded handgun must be in working order and placed in the trunk of the vehicle.

For more information, call police at 545-4300.
