Published Monday, December 10, 2012 11:27 AM
An empty vehicle was found submerged in the International Paper Co. canal near Choppee Road at around 11 a.m. Monday.
The area was searched but no one was found in the canal or surrounding areas, according to S.C. Highway Patrol Lance Cpl. Sonny Collins.
He said the investigation into how the vehicle got in to the canal is continuing but it appears to have been an accident. He said the car has not been reported stolen.
It appears the car had been in the canal less than 24 hours, Collins said.
