A Huntington Beach State Park worker said someone caused more than $1,500 worth of damage inside the historic Atalaya’s Castle Aug. 20.
A park ranger said an unknown number of individuals forced their way into the castle while it was closed.
Once inside, they broke several panes out of one of the windows — an original piece of the property — damaged several wooden benches, and damaged several light sockets.
They also climbed on the roof and threw some benches off the rooftop.
Several cans of beer were found and were taken to be tested for fingerprints.
The ranger said the price tag to repair the damage could go higher than the $1,500, since the castle is on the list of National Historic Places.
