A 15-year-old who was reportedly spotted with a gun on the Waccamaw High School campus is believed to be responsible for several burglaries in the Pawleys Island area.
On March 12, the WHS principal was told the teenager was seen with a gun inside a boy’s bathroom.
By the time school officials could get to the bathroom to investigate the claim, the teen had fled and was spotted running towards a wooded area near the school.
Sheriff’s Office spokesman Lt. Neil Johnson said the suspect is known to investigators because he has repeatedly run away from home.
Johnson said there have been some burglaries in that area in recent weeks. The teen is a suspect in those cases.
So far he has not been charged as the investigation continues.
Stolen shotguns
A man from South Bay Street in Maryville saw a raccoon on his property March 11, so he went to grab one of his two shotguns.
That’s when he discovered they were missing.
He told police he last saw the guns in a room under his house in October.
Both guns — worth about $1,000 each — are engraved with a Ducks Unlimited emblem.
The man said he has had workers in and out of the house since October, so he has no idea who took them.
Laptop stolen from teacher
A Howard Adult Center teacher asked a 19-year-old student to take a laptop computer to her car for her on March 11.
She asked him to put the computer in her trunk because she was leaving for a school function in Columbia.
She saw the computer box was in the car before she left but after arriving at her hotel, she discovered the laptop was not in the box.
She said she is unsure if the student took the laptop since she was not with him when he went to the car.
The case is still under investigation.
Laptop sold for drugs
A man from Rainbow Drive in Georgetown said he discovered his family’s laptop computer was missing after a birthday party for his child March 12.
He questioned people who were at the party and it was learned the laptop was taken by a 23-year-old woman. She reportedly sold it to a man for money and drugs.
The victim had to pay $60 to get the laptop back.
When confronted, the woman admitted selling the computer and agreed to pay back the $60.
Banned from The Pig
A 66-year-old Georgetown man has been banned from shopping at the Highmarket Street Piggly Wiggly and was hit with a citation after allegedly stealing a meal from the store’s deli Monday afternoon.
An employee spotted the man as he walked out the store without paying for the $5 meal. He followed the man outside, who said he did not pay because there was no price on the meal.
The worker then showed the man there was a price tag.
The worker said he did not want the man to go to jail, so police issued the man a citation for shoplifting and he was warned to stay away from the store.
Fled with the cash
A 25-year-old Summerville woman said she met with a 26-year-old Conway man at the Georgetown McDonalds March 2 for a business transaction.
She said she gave the man $2,700 in cash to pick up a vehicle in Michigan.
The man signed a piece of paper agreeing to the arrangement, but he never returned with the car.
The woman said the man’s phone has been disconnected and she has no idea how to reach him.
The preceding reports, compiled by Scott Harper, were collected from local law enforcement offices.

Comment Title: Teen with gun at WHS
My son attends WHS. A student with a gun on campus and parents were not notified? Reading about it in the newspaper is NOT acceptable. I would have liked to have known about this by an emergency response system, email or call out system. The county school board has a system already in place to call parents when a child is absent from school. The technology is there, why not use the system to notify parents when there is an incident at school? Other school systems in the US have systems in place for such emergencies, Georgetown County School System needs to follow suit.
