A baby born at Waccamaw Community Hospital was taken into emergency protective custody Aug. 15 after the boy’s mother tested positive for drug use.

The woman reportedly admitted using marijuana while pregnant.

She said the drug use took place at her home in Myrtle Beach.

For that reason, Horry County authorities were notified.

Hospital staff said they contacted Georgetown County deputies when they found a small amount of marijuana in the baby’s bassinet inside the hospital.

Man attacked by

woman with knife

Deputies were sent to Club Isis in Pawleys Island early Thursday where a 35 year old man said  he was attacked by a 25 year old woman with a knife.

The man said he was leaving the club when a rock hit shattered the back glass of his car.

When he stopped his car, the woman charged at him with a knife and cut him on the right shoulder.

While the man was inside the club calling 911, the woman allegedly slashed three of his tires.

The man refused medical treatment and the woman has not been located.

Passed out in the park

Police were sent to Constitution Park on Front Street at abut 2:20 a.m. Aug., 15 because of a man sleeping on the boardwalk near the park.

The officer had to shine his flashlight into the man’s eyes in order to wake him up.

The 36 year old man then put on his shoes and stood up but was unsteady on his feet and had a strong odor of alcohol.

He told police he did not have an ID but could speak very little English, so an interview was not possible.

He was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Exterminator robbed

A 25 year old man who works for a Myrtle Beach exterminator said he was robbed after he finished a job at a restaurant in the 1900 block of Highmarket Street Aug. 16.

The man said he was at his truck doing paperwork when a man came up from behind and tried to hit him on the head with a pipe.

He was able to block the weapon but it did hit him on the arm and grazed his cheek.

Another man threw “a solid object” at the victim, striking him in the mouth and knocking him on the ground.

The attackers were yelling at the man demanding money. He jumped up and started running.

When the owner of the restaurant walked out, the two suspects dropped the pipe and fled.

Tracking dogs were used and led officers to a dumpster where they found a pipe and a pile of concrete.

It’s believed concrete was used to hit the victim in the mouth.

The dogs also tracked a scent to a house in the 1800 block of Front Street.

Police tried knocking on the door for about 10 minutes but got no response.

No arrests have been made.

Trespassing swimmers

While checking property in the city Aug. 13, Georgetown interim Planning Director Ricky Martin found two people swimming in the swimming pool at Cravens Grant in Maryville.

Because Cravens Grant is a community yet to be developed, no one is supposed to be in the pool.

Both people left without incident when asked to do so.

The preceding reports, compiled by Scott Harper, were collected  from local law enforcement offices.
