A man and woman he has been seeing may have been using Sampit Elementary School as a place to meet Saturday evening.

Deputies were sent to the school at about 7:15 p.m. Saturday because of an alarm activation. When they arrived they were met on the outside of the school by a private investigator who said he had been following the 34-year-old man who is a maintenance technician.

The PI said he believed the man was in the school with a 33-year-old woman he has reportedly been seeing.

The man’s truck was parked behind the school and the engine was still warm when checked by a deputy.

A keyholder arrived on the scene and the school was checked. No one was found but “it sounded like someone was hiding in the ventilation system,” the report states.

The PI later contacted the deputies who said the man left the school at about 10 p.m.

Two of four shoplifters caught after crash into Tractor Supply

Two suspects were arrested and two are still being sought in connection with a shoplifting at the Georgetown Walmart that occurred at about 4:30 a.m. Saturday.

Minutes after the shoplifting was reported, a deputy spotted the getaway vehicle — a black Dodge Avenger — traveling on North Fraser Street.

“The vehicle appeared to be complying and then turned into the Tractor Supply parking lot and accelerated toward the rear of the building. The suspects lost control of the vehicle and crashed head on into the building,” said Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson.

The four occupants jumped out of the vehicle and ran in the woods. Deputies gave chase and quickly caught one of the suspects. Another was caught a short time later on Cribb Court.

Christopher McWhite, 23, and James Gamble, 27, both of Fayetteville, North Carolina were the two arrested, Cuthbertson said.

Teen sexually assaulted by cousin

A Georgetown woman met with a deputy Jan. 9 to report her 14-year-old daughter was sexually assaulted by the girl’s 24-year-old cousin.

The woman said the incidents took place in the summer of 2012 while the teen was staying with her grandmother in the Sampit area.

She said not long after her daughter moved in with her grandmother, her cousin also moved in.

In early June, while her grandmother was at work, her cousin walked in her room and pushed her on a bed.

She said he then sexually assaulted her.

The teen said she was assaulted by her cousin other times during the summer.

So far, no arrest has been made.

Recycler threatened over cigarette

A woman who works at the County Recycling Center on Grate Ave. in Pawleys Island says she was threatened by a 51-year-old woman Jan. 9

While the victim was at work, the suspect reportedly approached her and asked for a cigarette. When the request was refused, the woman allegedly got mad and started cursing.

She allegedly told the worker she was going to get her son to “do her in.”

The case was expected to be presented to a magistrate for possible prosecution.

Trailer and 4 wheeler theft

A man from the 100 block of Minnow Drive in Pawleys Island said he was away from home for 4-and-a-half hours Jan. 9 and while he was gone someone stole his utility trailer and a four wheeler that was on the trailer.

A deputy spoke with neighbors who said they did not see anyone on the man’s property.

Fake cash at the DC

A Georgetown County Detention Center employee reported a 27-year-old Georgetown man had $270 worth of counterfeit money in his possession.

The fake cash included 13 twenty dollar bills.

When questioned by a deputy, the man said he received the cash from a man who owed him money. He said it was the second time the man had given him counterfeit money.

The case was turned over to the Secret Service Office in Charleston.

Information is subject to change as the investigation proceeds. Individuals arrested and/or charged have not been convicted.
