Man gets probation and fine after lewd act conviction

A Georgetown man who was facing up to 15 years in prison after being found guilty of performing a lewd act on a minor escaped with a fine and probation.

According to the 15th Circuit Solicitor’s Office, 30-year-old Karis Dequan Baker stood trial this week for performing the sexual acts on a 14-year-old girl.

“Although the felony charge carries up to fifteen years in prison, Circuit Judge Benjamin Culbertson sentenced Baker to a fine of $3,500.00 and probation. Baker paid the fine and was released,” according to the statement.

The jury deliberated for 30 minutes after hearing testimony for two days.
